Currently, every city in the United States requires a permit to add a mobile office. Mobile office buildings are built to the same code as site built structures, therefore mobile office buildings are required to go through the same building permit process. Many local municipalities have a written policy in place for the addition of mobile office or modular building. In most states, Arizona for example, a state agency is in place to oversee the installation of mobile office buildings and modular buildings. By having a state agency that oversees the installation of mobile offices and modular buildings, the installation process is streamlined and permit information is required on each new site. For states that have a modular housing division or factory built division, the agency works closely with the local jurisdiction to ensure that state regulations for modular buildings are met and that all local regulations for modular buildings are in compliance.
Once you have the required permit from the local agency and the state agency (if applicable), you are now ready to take delivery of your new mobile office or modular building.
A brief checklist for installation of your new mobile office:
- Do you have power to the site with current amps for the size of your mobile office?
- Do you have a sewer line or approved septic system ready for the new mobile office?
- Do you have a water line for the new mobile office?
- If you are required by the fire marshall to install fire sprinklers, do you have the underground pipe in place and ready for the new mobile office?
- Do you have the set backs cleared? How close you can be to property lines and other structures?
- Are you properly zoned for a new mobile office or commercial modular building?
- Do you have an ADA access plan in place?
- Is there clear access to deliver the new mobile office to the planned site?
If you are unsure about any of the above requirements, feel free to contact the experienced team at Modular Solutions, Ltd. Our team provides full service installations of modular buildings and mobile offices and would be glad to offer any assistance required.
