Modular Solutions, Ltd was recently recognized with high praises for excellent performance from the Honorable Katie Hobbs, Governor of the State of Arizona. Watch our youtube channel for this quick video.
Modular Solutions, Ltd holds a cooperative contract with State of Arizona for design-build modular and steel buildings. Our team met with the Department of forestry and fire management early in the process. Our discussions included designing a strategic communication facility that would be the main hub for all fire season communication and dispatch. The new center had to be operational before the summer of 2026 to beat the late spring and summer wild fires in the state. Our team met with ADOA staff, DFFM staff, and critical path partners to commit to making this happen.
PRECONSTRUCTION: Our preconstruction team held a series of design meetings to capture the full needs and design criteria for DFFM. The meetings established goals.
- The building should be approximately 7,000 square ft and be modern mixed materials.
- The noise and lighting were a concern so our design team developed a floating ceiling for complete data access to the trays above yet still providing that noise abatement required.
- LED interior lighting strips were patterned for focus and monitor visual clarity.
- The natural lighting also had to be controlled. Automatic rolling window shades that controlled the amount of natural lighting allowed in so there can be partial or full natural lighting at any given time as desired.
- Back up generator was required so the building would never be down or out of service
- High tech communication and technology devices had to be incorporated into the final design for statewide effective communication
- Fully equipped indoor and outdoor kitchen and cooking space for the crews and visiting crews
LIFECYCLE: The DFFM team wanted a building with permanent life cycle and concrete slab floor systems. Modular Solutions designed this “slab-on-grade” prefabricated modular building to set on the slab with no crawlspace or stem walls required. Our “slab-on-grade” modular buildings are constructed in the plant with no floor, and get welded to a concrete slab for traditional construction life cycle compliance. The building elements included steel, block,
CONSTRUCTION: The building was fabricated off-site at our phoenix factory. While the modular sections were being manufactured the site was being prepared. This included site grading, retention, fencing, curbs and driveways, electrical, sewer, water, and all site improvements. Once the buildings were ready to ship to the site the crane was ordered, and the on-site and off-site installation were completed. All of the utility connections and final finishes were put in place and final asphalt and electrical connections were finished. As a state building DFFM also required a back up generator to keep this building live in the event of an emergency.
OCCUPANCY: From our initial ground breaking to C of O this building and site took only 13 months to complete. By having a TURNKEY design-build company DFFM was able to be live for the public safety in our state. The youtube video of Governor Hobbs states that Modular Solutions was able to complete the job on time, and on budget.
SUMMARY: Thank you to everyone involved in this project.
Our team was very pleased to work with ADOA, DFFM and inter-agency agreements to help expedite this building project. To have a 7000 square ft modern permanent building go from napkin sketch to full occupancy in only 13 months takes effective communication and collaboration. We are grateful Modular Solutions was the team selected to complete the amazing project that will be the hub of public safety for many years to come.
